A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Oyed
ele Hakeem Alao (Allow Alao), on Wednesday, took Governor Seyi Makinde to the cleaner over his recent penchant of criticizing President Bola Tinubu and his administration.
Alao while speaking with journalists in Ibadan on situations in the country, described Governor Makinde as an unbridled ingrate who has parted ways with virtually all those who helped him to get the second term governorship.
According to him, apart from President Tinubu, Governor Makinde is not in speaking term with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike who facilitated the visit of President Tinubu to the Agodi Government House during the campaign of 2023 election.
He said, “The question that we need to ask Governor Makinde is what is his relationship with the FCT Minister who was his saving grace during the 2023 elections? Indeed, it was Wike who called President Tinubu to visit Makinde at the Government House before moving to the campaign group which came as a rude shock to APC members and the gubernatorial candidate.”
The Asiwaju of Irokoland noted that it is funny and interesting for Makinde to label the administration of President Tinubu as not a listening one, insisting that President Tinubu has done a lot in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State despite the fact that the governor is from the opposition political party.
“An administration that approved a ₦50 billion special intervention for Oyo State with N30b already disbursed to the state to address the humanitarian fallout from the tragic Bodija explosion that destroyed homes, claimed lives, and displaced several residents to any reasonable person cannot be said to be not a listening one.
“Similarly, candidates whose names were submitted by Governor Makinde have been given federal appointments by President Tinubu. The question then is what does he want from the President or he wants him to treat him as an Emperor?”
Alao maintained that President Tinubu is incomparable with Governor Makinde in the area of governance, insisting that Chairmen of local government areas in the state are more or less slaves who always kowtow to the whims and caprices of the governor. President Tinubu, as former Governor of Lagos allowed the local government chairmen to function and also established additional local governments during his tenure as Governor of Lagos state.
“Governor Makinde is the first governor in the country who always insisted that he will not allow local government autonomy and it is unfortunate that this position of his has crippled local government administration in the state with the Chairmen not been able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots”, he submitted.
