Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao aka Allow Alao, a prominent governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has categorically refuted assertions that President Bola Tinubu has selected a preferred candidate for the party’s 2027 gubernatorial ticket.
Speaking during the Yoruba-language programme Bosenlo on Lagelu FM, Engr. Alao underscored that the political dynamics in Oyo State differ markedly from APC strongholds such as Lagos and Ogun, where incumbent governors wield significant influence. He noted that the party remains in opposition in Oyo, currently governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a factor that ensures equal opportunity for all aspirants ahead of the primaries.
“The events in Ibadan yesterday, where certain elders purportedly endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli, amount to an exercise in futility,” Alao stated. “I can assert with certainty that President Tinubu has endorsed no one as the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State. We are all proceeding to the primaries. As of yesterday, five aspirants, including myself, have procured nomination forms.”
Citing the Electoral Act of 2022, Alao explained that the party’s nomination process allows for either consensus or direct primaries, with preparations underway for the latter. “The candidate who emerges victorious will be the party’s standard bearer,” he affirmed.
A seasoned engineer and philanthropist with a proven record in infrastructure development, Alao outlined an ambitious vision for Oyo State, pledging transformative initiatives in education, agriculture, healthcare, and critical infrastructure sectors.
“I have developed comprehensive programmes to revolutionise these areas,” he said. “From modernising schools and equipping farmers with advanced technology to overhauling healthcare delivery, Oyo will experience unprecedented progress under my leadership.”
Alao also called on party members to reject godfatherism and uphold democratic principles, urging unity to reclaim Oyo State for the APC in 2027.
