Oyo: APC G5 Guber Aspirants Demand Immediate Resignation of State Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo

In a major internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, five prominent governorship aspirants, also called G5, have passed a vote of no confidence on the State Chairman, Dr. (Chief) Moses Alake Adeyemo, and demanded his immediate resignation.

The aspirants, who met on Monday issued a strongly worded communique accusing Chief Moses Adeyemo of undermining internal democracy, displaying bias, and engaging in acts that could lead to the party’s repeated electoral failure in the state.

“We, the undersigned five All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirants in Oyo State, met on Monday, June 1, 2026 to review the state of our party. After extensive deliberations, we express our deep dissatisfaction with the way the party is being run in Oyo State,” the communique read.

The group alleged that Adeyemo directed local government party chairmen to work for a particular aspirant even before the primaries, describing it as “a gross abuse of office and a violation of neutrality.”

They also condemned the chairman for prematurely declaring an aspirant as the party’s candidate before the National Working Committee (NWC) released the official result.

“Such premature announcement pre-empted due process, confused party members, and eroded trust in our institutions. Only the NWC has the constitutional mandate to announce results,” the aspirants stated.

The five gubernatorial aspirants further criticised Dr. Adeyemo’s conduct after a Sallah meeting with the President, where he allegedly granted media interviews announcing a candidate and publicly raised an aspirant’s hand as the flagbearer.

“We have not forgotten the bitter lessons of 2019 and 2023 in Oyo State,” the communique continued. “Provocative speeches by the state chairman and his cohorts can tear the party apart. We lost not because our ideals were weak, but because division, imposition, and injustice weakened our ranks.”

Other allegations levelled against the chairman include failure to convene aspirants for briefings during the critical election period, inadequate provision of election materials which disrupted the governorship primaries, and the mass exodus of party members due to alleged sidelining and disrespect.

The aspirants warned that without urgent intervention, the party’s prospects in 2026 and beyond remain bleak.

We call on the APC National Working Committee and all relevant stakeholders to accept our position and ensure the immediate resignation of the state chairman. The future of the APC in Oyo State depends on transparent leadership, respect for rules and justice for all members,” they declared.
